6 universal tips for creating a multimedia presentation

There are a handful of universal tips on how to create a good multimedia presentation to help you in your speeches.

Nothing is as eye-catching as using more than one font in a presentation, especially when they don't match. A much better idea is to choose one font that we will stick to throughout the presentation. It is important that it fits the subject of the presentation, if it is quite serious, it is not appropriate to use some kind of funny font in the presentation and vice versa. It is also important to choose the right size and stick to a specific size for titles, subtitles and plain text.

It is not advisable to place a large amount of text in a multimedia presentation, after all, it is not about you reading from it. The information in the presentation is only intended to be an addition to the audience, which will allow them to better understand the content. It can contain keywords, subsections, charts, pictures or anything you want.

Visual consistency

Maybe not so anything. You have to remember that the presentation retains a certain visual layer. So if you decide to bold the title or set the blue colour of the font, stick to it to the very end. Forcing new visual elements in the presentation does not make the presentation better, but more chaotic. If the recipient can see the topic in bold or italics, he or she gets lost after a while and doesn't know what is the subject, which certainly won't make it easier for him or her to receive your presentation. Equally important is the homogeneous colouring. It is best to choose a specific colour, or a few matching colours, which will be used throughout the presentation.

It is a good idea to place various diagrams, pictures or infographics in a multimedia presentation, which will help viewers better understand the right content. Our brain is much better at understanding a model image than at describing the model in languages, so if possible, use visual schemes to present your concepts.

If this is not necessary, try to avoid distractions. Of course, you can say that the task of the presentation is to attract attention, but you are the star of the program and the presentation is to be an addition. If you put too many unnecessary elements in it, such as animations or gifs, the viewers may become distracted and stop listening to you.

If you use graphics or photos in the presentation, remember to pay attention to their quality. If your multimedia presentation is displayed on a large screen or overhead projector, low quality graphics may be more visible than on your computer screen, which will make it look less professional.

If you follow these tips, your multimedia presentation will surely be a great help in your speech, helping you to keep your audience's attention and to convey the most important information.
